Enjoy an African safari walk with an expert guideOne of the most popular activities at the Boma Garden Centre is an African safari walk with one of their expert guides. Visitors will learn about the different plant species and explore a variety of landscapes, as well as new habitats. You’ll hear interesting facts and stories about plants, animals, and various features of Africa. If you love being outdoors, this is the perfect activity for you! It is a great way to spend some time outside while learning about nature and exploring new places. The tour lasts for about an hour and starts at 11:00 am each day. Visitors will get a tour around two dwellings – the Boma Garden Centre’s Modern Traditional Dwelling and our Modern Native Dwelling, which were both designed by architect Scott Birdsell. This exciting opportunity will take you into the interior of these homes where you’ll see how these unique spaces have been ingeniously tailored for Canadian lifestyles. Discover the healing and therapeutic powers of the African bushIf you’re looking for a more relaxing way to enjoy the changing seasons, try out the Garden Centre’s many therapeutic plants. The Garden Centre has been using plants in their centre for healing and therapy for over 20 years. Some of the most popular plants include aloe, eucalyptus, and lavender. The life of a fish or plant can depend on whether they live in fresh, salt or brackish water. The Boma Garden Centre has an environment that mimics these different habitats. As you walk around the pond, you’ll see different species of fish such as tilapia and carp. Some types only thrive in freshwater while others prefer salty conditions. You’ll also notice plants like water mint and desert rose thriving near the shoreline and sea grape trees living further out in deeper waters. Make new friends with a Boma Kids’ Club visitOne of the easiest ways to celebrate the changing seasons is with a visit to the Boma Kids’ Club. The Boma Kids’ Club offers various activities for kids, including a cakewalk and cooking demo by Chef Elsie. The Boma Kids’ Club also offers different seasonal celebrations, like Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. On a recent visit, I was able to take part in their Thanksgiving celebration. We first made our own turkey with stuffing, then decorated pumpkins and enjoyed a pumpkin pie. All this while being surrounded by the changing leaves of fall and taking in the fresh air. It was an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend!
